Posture Benefits Precautions
Shalabhasan
(Locust Position)
The main benefits of the locust are to build strength and flexibility in the back. Before beginning the locust, the resting posture is done by laying on the stomach instead of the back.
The primary benefits of this position are:
  • Builds strength in the muscles of the lower back.
  • Increases flexibility in the back.
  • Especially recommended for relieving sciatica and pain in the lower back.
  • Massages the internal organs.
  • Improves digestion.
  • Strengthens the arms and shoulders.
People with delicate abdominal area should not do this asana.
Ardha Chandrasana
(Half-Moon Pose)
Strengthens abdominal muscles. Helps in releasing frozen shoulders. Helps trim the stomach and good for low back pain. Aids in recovery of slipped or ruptured disc.

Dhanurasana
(Bow Position)
Blood circulation to the back muscles, the spine, and spine nerves and the abdominal organs is greatly promoted. The chest is also expanded in these asanas so that breathing becomes fuller. The Bow position requires retention of breath and the resulting high pressure in the lungs helps in increasing their elasticity. People with delicate abdominal area should not do this asana.
