A Few Do’s and Don’ts of Yoga

Do’s:
  • Do consult your physician before taking up Yoga if you have any health concerns….
  • Do Yoga practice on an empty or light stomach (leave at least four hours after a full meal or one to two hours after a light meal or a snack before you do Yoga).
  • Do wear loose and comfortable clothing
  • Do arrive few minutes before the class. Center will typically open 15 minutes before the class.
  • Do relax during the entire practice.
  • Do relax in the final position of a Yoga posture and breathe slowly through the nose.
  • Do practice with eyes (and mouth) closed to conserve energy and focus on the areas within the body and on breathing.
  • Do Perform Yoga to your capacity. Gradually your capacity will increase with consistent practice
  • Do enjoy your Yoga Practice and have a light smile on your face at all times!
Don’ts:
  • Don’t wear tight clothes (not good for circulation)
  • Don’t wear perfume during the practice (not good for breathing)
  • Don’t wear jewelery which may obstruct during the Yoga practice… Keep it minimal
  • Don’t exert during postures and breathing.
  • Don’t sweat it out! Yoga is not a calorie-burning exercise. Yoga postures should be performed very slowly and with conscious breathing.
  • Don’t perform Yoga for others. Do it for yourself (Don’t look around and compare yourself with others!)
  • Don’t use cell phone/pager during the class, keep it on silent or vibrate mode to minimize distraction
